Today we’re happy to share a fun post from “LM” Hoffmann about all those things she said she’d never do before becoming a mom. And you can sing along with her! 🙂
E-I-E-I-O
We all have our favorites – those that take us back to when we were young and others we recited with our own children. Jack and Jill, Humpy Dumpty, Little Miss Muffet … the list of nursery rhymes goes on and on. Some are silly; others teach a lesson; others are down-right odd. For the most part, they make people smile. And that’s what it’s all about – or maybe the Hokey Pokey, but you get the point.
Before I had my own children, I envisioned motherhood as a fairy tale … a nursery rhyme – puppies and pigtails, sugar and spice. I was going to be the mom who played on the floor with her children all day – reading books and doing puzzles. Everything else – the laundry, the dishes, the dog – could wait. There would be plenty of time to do all of that. Turns out, NOTHING (AND NO ONE) COULD WAIT!
Remember the song “Old MacDonald” … sing it with me, ladies:
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
And at this house, she had five kids
E-I-E-I-O
With a boo boo here
And a wah wah there
Here a kid, there a kid
Everywhere a kid, kid
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
This tired momma made a pledge
E-I-E-I-O
She swore she’d never raise her voice
E-I-E-I-O
With a “STOP THAT, NOW!”
And a “CUT THAT OUT!”
Here a scream, there a scream
Everywhere a loud scream
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
This tired momma made a pledge
E-I-E-I-O
She swore she’d never swear out loud
E-I-E-I-O
With an “A**hole” here
And a “Holy Sh*t” there
Here a swear, there a swear
Everywhere a damn swear
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
This tired momma made a pledge
E-I-E-I-O
She swore she’d never serve fast food
E-I-E-I-O
With a pizza pie here
And a happy meal there
Here a fry, there a fry
Everywhere a french fry
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
This tired momma made a pledge
E-I-E-I-O
She swore she’d never “let herself go”
E-I-E-I-O
With a ponytail here
And yoga pants there
Here a mess, there a mess
Everywhere a hot mess
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
This tired momma made a pledge
E-I-E-I-O
She swore she’d stay organized
E-I-E-I-O
With class projects here
And birthday parties there
Here a conflict, there a conflict
Everywhere a freakin conflict
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
This tired momma made a pledge
E-I-E-I-O
She swore she’d never be like her mom
E-I-E-I-O
With “Because I said so” here
And “Life’s not fair” there
Here a saying, there a saying
Everywhere a cliché saying
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
This tired momma made a pledge
E-I-E-I-O
She swore she’d always be their mom
E-I-E-I-O
With a kiss kiss here
And a hug hug there
Here some love, there some love
Everywhere lots of love
This tired momma has a home
E-I-E-I-O
Life may not have turned out to be neat and clean like I imagined, but it’s still a nursery rhyme and wouldn’t have it any other way. E-I-E-I-O
