More about Laura

Laura Lyles Reagan is the proud mother of two adult daughters. Not only did she and her daughters survive the rolled eyes era of the teen years together, they thrived through single parenthood, family illness and other exciting drama. Laura loves to share their adventures and misadventures.

Laura is a sociologist specializing in the sociology of childhood and adolescence. She is a former instructor in the Sociology of Childhood and Adolescence at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Her original research, “Dynamic Duos” about adult mentor and parent impact on youth and teens was featured in the Journal of Applied Social Science, 2013.

Laura is known as the Teen and Parent Relationship Whisperer. She helps teens and parents build positive, effective, more satisfying relationships which help teens grow the skills they need for adulthood. Her youth development career spans service from Mexico City as a youth substance abuse counselor, to non-profit management in South Texas. For more than 30-years, she has worked in youth development and parent training which spans service from Mexico City as a substance abuse counselor to non-profit management in South Texas. Her approach is called co-creation. Parents and teens learn to “tune in” to one another in new ways by listening consciously and speaking consciously. Together they can co-create the relationship that meets their unique needs. As a result, teens can grow into young adults more confidently.

Her book, How to Raise Respectful Parents: Better Communication for Teen and Parent Relationships is published by Moonshine Cove Publishing. The book was a 2018 International Book Award Finalist, 2017 Best Book Finalist and won the 2017 Pinnacle Book Achievement Award. How to Raise Respectful Parents uniquely provides sample conversations for with teens and parents along with exercises to practice new co-creation skills on hot topics that affect adolescents.
